How to check the VPN status?

  1. Connect to SecureNetworX Wi-Fi
  2. Open the HomeVPNBox Control Panel (click here to put a shortcut on your Windows desktop)

 * Login credentials are the same as written on the back of the HomeVPNBox for WiFi access

If  the VPN is not connected:

  • In VPN Options tab, hit “Disconnect” if required
  • Refresh the Server list
  • Choose recommended server (see below)
  • Select RouterPro VPN  (UDP for fastest speed, TCP if UDP appears to be throttled)
  • Check the option “Start Automatically
  • Save and Connect

If you have an unstable internet line and the VPN disconnects often, choose “TCP” mode.

Accelerator: if you have a HomeVPNBox Pro (fast dual-core CPU) you can enable this option

Site Filter: standard setting is to "Tunnel International Traffic only"

Rebooting the HomeVPNBox

If you feel the VPN is disconnected, check the VPN Control Panel FIRST and reconnect manually!

The most elegant way is to reboot the HomeVPNBox through the Administrator function.

  1. Go to the router Management Page
  2. Scroll Down
  3. Click "Reboot Router"
  4. Wait 5min for HomeVPNBox to fully reboot and the VPN Applet to load

In case the Management Page becomes inaccessible, you can reboot through a Power-cycle procedure:

  1. Check for the LAN cable with main router to be well connected
  2. Unplug HomeVPNBox power cord
  3. Wait 1min
  4. Replug Power cord
  5. Wait 5min for HomeVPNBox to fully reboot and the VPN Applet to load

VPN is connected but still no access to blocked sites

This typically caused because your computer has still remembered the faulty webpage URL mapping with Internet address (IP). In other words DNS spoofng.
What to do: flush the DNS.

  1. Exit your web browser and close any applications with Internet connectivity
  2. Flush DNS Windows: execute this file (link to start menu for future use)
  3. For MAC (OS X 10.5, 10.6, 10.7):
  • Open terminal session (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
  • Enter “dscacheutil –flushcache”
  • For iPhones, Android SmartPhones, iPad, tablets: switch your device off (full shutdown) and restart
  • You may need to repeat this procedure when you have been surfing on the net for a while without VPN.

    Resolving problems of sending emails

If supported by your mail provider, we recommend changing the SMTP sending ports to 587 or 465 and use SSL encryption. If you do not have that possibility and have to use the standard SMTP outgoing ports 25, there are two options to ensure you can send through the VPN.

    • Option 1: choose a * marked VPN server.
    • Option 2: exclude port 25 (or 465 and 587) from VPN connection
This is also particularly meaningful if your server is based in China or Asia, avoiding to send the traffic halfway around the planet. How to configure:
    1. Log on to the VPN control Panel
    2. Click “Disconnect” (wait 30sec)
    3. Go to the tab “Exceptions
    4. Enter the Destination Port number (25, 465, 587)
    5. Click + to add
    6. Hit “Save
    7. Hit “Connect” to establish the VPN link again

    Terminated Session Error

In case you receive the "Terminated Session" warning, this can be caused by two things:

    1. You have more than 7 LAN devices connected which are concurrently using the VPN. Disconnect some
    2. The Astrill Desktop client on laptop or VPN client on mobile are running as well. Disconnect them

If none of this is the case, simply reboot the HomeVPNBox (wait 5-10min for the restart to complete).

If it continues to persist, contact the online LiveSupport team and provide them your account ID (HVPN-xxxx).

(important: do not change your Astrill account password!)

How can I check if there's a software update?

    1. Connect to SecureNetworX Wi-Fi
    2. Open HomeVPNBox configuration page*
    3. Go to "About" tab
    4. Click "Check for updates"
    5. Click "Reinstall" or "Update"  if  applicable

     * Consult User Guide for login and password details

If the update does not perform properly, a manual re-installation will be required.

In such case, follow carefully the instructions here.

How do I configure my iOS and Android devices?

Your RouterPro VPN package comes with one license to be used on the go with your iOS or Android devices.

Install the Astrill VPN client via the respective apps stores.

Your username and password are the ones provided with your account activation (listed on invoice and/or confirmation email). Don't forget to turn off when your are at home connected to your HomeVPNBox.

[UPDATE] For China users: please note that the standard VPN protocols used in the  iOS application appear to be heavily blocked at this time. If you encouter connectivity issues, please uninstall the Astrill app on your iDevice and contact us to help you configure the VPN profile manually.
